► Yooooooooo, Exiles!
Here's an endgame showcase of my late-game, high-budget Infernal Legion Elephant Lich.
This is my new take on my original Elephant IL build. After showcasing the Chimera IL Spirit Walker, I wanted to revisit the Elephant and get a proper comparison between the two.
The core of the build is the Elephant Tortoise, the highest HP Beast, transformed into a walking inferno through Infernal Legion (Catha's Brilliance). It ignites and melts everything nearby, scaling its damage directly from the Beast's massive life pool.
While the Chimera has incredible single-target damage, it falls behind in clear. It can't roll the AoE mod, and its movement speed and AI are pretty terrible. The result is a high-damage Beast that feels clunky to play unless you constantly weapon swap.
The Elephant still packs a punch, and with Lich plus some "clever" gearing, you can almost match the Chimera's single-target damage. The real advantage, though, is that the Elephant can roll the AoE mod. Combined with the companion AoE nodes GGG added to the passive tree and the AoE minion jewels I transferred over from my Chimera build, it achieves clear unrivaled by any other minion build in the game. The ignite aura now covers roughly half of the screen, reaching both the top and bottom edges.
The Elephant's already "very fast" movement speed is further boosted by the new companion movement speed on the tree, making this version fully viable without weapon swap spam. It can even keep up with my Mageblood Lich. This is genuinely the only minion build right now where the minion command key is actually useful and even good. Perfect for those of you who prefer not to abuse constant weapon swapping.
That said, constant weapon swap spam isn't even the optimal way to play. Instead, it's best used to reposition the Elephant, cancel long attack animations, and reset its abilities back onto cooldown. The Elephant's tendency to simply charge forward is absolutely BiS for this archetype. Lean back and enjoy watching your pet rampage through maps, burning everything to a crisp.
The damage is still absolutely filthy.
It surpasses the pre-nerf, pre-bugfix Malice Infernal Legion Elephant setup, and the build isn't even finished yet. On paper, I could still double the damage from where it currently stands.
This Elephant only has a single damage mod compared to the two I had in previous showcases. Every pinnacle shown has 35% less damage taken from "Untold Histories" on top of their initial damage reduction. All boss footage is also effectively on a 5-link because I don't bother swapping out "Magnified Area" for another damage support. Even in its current state, the build looks comfortably above ~10 million DPS.

(PoB does not support the jewel sockets added via Voices + Zarokh's Gift. 3 jewel sockets are missing in the PoB. Beast HP = 206k/
Boar has Haste + All Damage Shocks)

► The Perfect Beasts
Our goal is to make the Elephant's AoE as large as possible. The only mandatory modifier is Increased Area of Effect. For more damage, look for Extra Fire Damage, Extra Chaos Damage, or ideally both.
My Elephant originally had Extra Fire + Extra Chaos + AoE, but because it was a 5-mod rare, taming it randomly removed one modifier. Unfortunately, it deleted Extra Chaos. That one hurt. Anyway, I hope you "enjoy" farming Azmerian Ranges, it takes a couple of hours to get one with AoE + Extra Damage.
Priority modifiers:
AoE + Extra Fire + Extra Chaos
AoE + All Damage Ignites + any Extra Damage mod
AoE + Extra Fire or Extra Chaos
Your second Beast is your Loyalty and Shock bot. I use the Boar simply because it's easy to farm.
For the Boar, look for:
Haste
All Damage Shocks
► Playstyle
Bind your beast to Weapon Set 1 and disable it on Weapon Set 2.
Weapon swapping will instantly reposition your companion.
For bossing:
-
Cast Elemental Weakness
-
Apply Frost Bomb
-
Use Spearfield to aggravate the Ignite
► How to Craft the Jewels
Buy Diamond Jewels with:
Minions have increased Area of Effect + (1 of the following)
-
Minion Life
-
Minion Damage
-
Companion Life
-
Companion Damage
Use Potent Liquid Contempt to hit +1 Prefix (50/50).
Desecrate a Prefix.
Use Omens of Echoes/Light + Annuls to repeatedly reroll the desecrated modifier until it becomes another desirable Minion or Companion Life/Damage Prefix.
Use Omen of Dextral Annulment to remove the crafted +1 Prefix modifier.
Apply Potent Liquid Ferocity. Since we have 3 prefix slots occupied, this can only hit the suffix.
Divine the jewel until you're satisfied with the rolls.
