Archmage Poison Crit Hexblast is now complete as of patch 0.1.1. This was a fun build that scaled very smoothly into the late game, though in retrospect I do believe adding energy shield would have been better. I call this build an archetype because Acolyte of Chayula is absolutely not the best ascendancy choice, but the concepts I've showcased can be applied to any ascendancy at all with similar effect.
There are higher dps options if you wish to take them, through getting higher gem levels or using a 9% Archmage.
