Going into Maps
- After hitting maps, you have 2 choices of progression. You can stick to life/hybrid (which is what I did) and save up to go LL directly. Or you may choose to go Chaos Innoculation (CI) which makes you
immune to Chaos dmg and easier to survive in maps. However, going CI means you will need a slightly different tree (CI node instead of Pain Attunement) and gear might be different since you won't need
Chaos Res on it.
- I personally prefer to go LL directly since I only need a 5L Shavronne Wrapping (Shav) to convert and the other gears can come later while I progress.
- If you're doing SSF, you should go CI while trying to get a Shav (I usually get it in Ritual, but there's also "The Offering" card you can farm). Prism guardian has the "Desperate Crusade" card you can farm.
In my experience, Ritual is the way to go but will need patience.
- You don't have to worry about DPS since it comes mostly from the Gem Level so just keep going, in fact I got to T5 maps with the same 4-link chest from Act10 until I got 5L vaal regalia from Ritual (yes, I love Ritual).
It used to be easier to get 5L with Harvest but that craft is gone in 3.19
Life/ES milestone
- T1 maps : 2K Life & 1K ES
- T5 maps : 2K Life & 2K ES
- T10 maps : 2K Life & 3K ES
- T11-T16, : CI or LL with 4K ES (with determination, defiance banner and 50% spell suppression from the tree alone)
- Pinnacle bosses and all end game content : LL with 5K ES, 1mil shaper DPS.
- Uber pinnable bosses : I'll estimate at least 8-10mil shaper DPS to kill every one of them but I haven't try them yet, I was in SSF for 3.18. WIll update.
Melding of the Flesh
What melding? The jewel makes all max ele res equals to the highest max ele res. Since we are using Aegis aurora, we already have +5 to max cold res. Coupled with purity of ice (lvl 23) and 60% increased
aura effect, we will have 88% max cold res. However, melding was nerfed and it will have -4/-6 max res so without any further investment. You will have 84% max ele res. Take note that the jewel will also have -70%
to all res so you will need to get resistance from gears and tree to compensate for it.
Why melding? It is the strongest elemental defensive layer there is, even stronger than spell suppression. It is harder because you will need gear with a lot of resistance but we only need 1 jewel socket without
further passives points (unlike spell suppression).
Why 88%? When I started playing this version of the build in 3.17, 88% was good enough for me to level all the way to level 100. Mathematically, it also means 52% less elemental dmg taken compared to 75%
resistance so it's a good number. You should try 84% (36% less elemental dmg) all res and see if that's enough for you.
Cluster Jewels
- Large Cluster (8 passives) : Prismatic Heart, Deep Chill, Widespread Destruction (Disorienting Display if you have 10K evasion). Take only prismatic heart and deep chill if going with widespread destruction.
SSF - Craft using prismatic fossils.
- Medium Cluster (4/5 passives) : Brush with death, vile reinvigoration (If I'm not using it yet it's because I'm too poor)
SSF - Craft using dense fossils.
- Small Cluster (2 passives) : Mortifying Aspect (I like this), Spiteful Presence, Uncompromising (not so good). Pure guile when using Melding, +20 dex is nice. Use this to compensate the lost of "15% RMR mastery"
- Megalomaniac (Optional) : Prismatic carapace or winter prowler, aura reservation notables, DPS notables.
Forbidden Flesh & Flame
Why vile bastion? I want profane bloom, malediction, frigid wake and vile bastion so either one of those are fine. Vile bastion is the cheapest. Profane bloom helps with clear and it's possible to go blasphemy
setup later (see my 3.17 video).
BIS - Heart of Destruction ($$$$$) and will need to drop malediction. DPS wise is about the same , malediction might even be higher DPS but heart of destruction has more AOE when mapping (QOL).
Cobalt Jewels
Descending order of priority
- %Cold Dot Multi
- % increased max ES
- % Dot multi
- % spell dmg while holding shield
- % cold dmg / spell dmg / area dmg
Wand Craft
The wand I'm using I bought for 15C, only with the fractured % Cold DOT.
We are looking for +1 Cold spell/All spell and %Spell (Or %Dot Multi if lucky).
So I scour it (the fractured mod will stay).
There's 2 ways to proceed
1. Alt + Aug spam till you get +1 Cold/+1 Spell, this is the longer way but it's cheaper. Takes around 250 tries in average. After you get +1 Spell/+1 Cold, you regal it to make it Rare, then craft %spell (Multimod if
you have lots of divines to spare.
2. Spam Essences of Woe on the wand, I did that and got lucky.
Amulet
Best in Slot WAS Ashes of the Stars but it's expensive.
Look for +1/2 cold skill and % DOT Multi, it's not too expensive. I got my current amulet at 40C, great deal. You can annoint mirrored amulet with Reflective Oil.
Kalandra amulets can have +2 cold with +2 all skills that makes it a +4 amulet, it's expensive but will be the BIS DPS amulet.
Glove Craft
Buy a glove with % Cold DOT Multi implicit (exarch), I crafted with essence (Woe, or resistance if you need). Ideally i'd want a glove with higher ES.
Cold exposure on glove = no more frost bomb. One less button to press and one extra gem slot.
If going for 90% all elemental resistance, you can try getting a glove with +2 max cold res eldritch implicit.
Creeping frost gem link
I'm mapping with Creeping frost (divergent) - culling strike - arcane surge (lvl 12) - item rarity
I use bonechill for Pinnable bosses and swap back item rarity (not sure if it helps) to cull.
This is the first time I include item rarity in my build and it's mostly in case if I see a Solaris-touched mob!
Flasks
Flagellant Sulphur (bleed), Quartz (% armor), Basalt (poison/ignite), Granite (ignite/poison) and Quicksilver (curse effect/MS etc).
Enchant (use the bench) with use when charges reach full for all except sulphur (use when bleeding).
Flask is up almost at all time while mapping because we get hit a lot.
Others Levelling Tips
- You can use the magic wand upgrade (with sapphire ring and alteration) or just use essence of woe on them. DPS mainly scales with gem level so the weapon is not that critical.
- Prioritize getting movement speed on boots, I'd identify every pair of rare boots and use essence on the 4-links (or 3-links before Act4) until I get movement speed.
- This levelling sequence will give you a good number of elemental resistance so capping it should not be an issue. You can use the elemental mastery to get +15% to all elemental resistance if necessary.
- This guide is geared towards converting to Chaos Innoculaton (and later low-life) which is why I'm taking some ES nodes and have Discipline by end of Act 10.
- I went into all vaal side area to look for Vaal Cold Snap and Vaal Discipline, no luck. Needless to say, no 6-links too. You don't need it during levelling but they are important when you start mapping so consider
buying them if you're in trade league or continue to vaal or visit vaal side area until you find them.
- Onslaught can be dropped when mapping especially after Uber Lab where we get Malediction and will add Punishment to the Bane setup. Get onslaught (veiled mod) on boots, it's really good!
- Pantheon : I always go with Abberath and Solaris. Abberath so this character will be close to ailment immune since it can't be chilled or frozen (Frigid Wake), Tempest Shield = Shock Immunity and Abberath makes
it unaffected to burning ground and ignite duration greatly reduced. Solaris because it's the really big hit that can kill and Solaris helps a lot in reducing critical strike damage.
- Bandits : Kill all for 2 passive points.
Chaos Innoculation
The benefit of going CI is that you are immune to chaos dmg and gearing much easier compared to LL. At mid budget, you can possibly get higher DPS than LL but less defence when compared to LL with melding.
In fact, the CI set I did in this POB has higher DPS than my LL setup!
The experienced cold DOT players always tell us to go CI before transiting to LL but from my experience, there is no need to do that. You can do life/ES hybrid till red map as long as you have Chaos res. Then get
a 5L Shav like I did in day 2, it's quite affordable. I've included a lvl 80 CI set and high budget CI set for reference in case some of you prefer to just stay with CI.
Super Low Budget Gear (total 94 Chaos, 59 chaos if you 5L the Shav yourself - day 2/3)
5L Shav (80c on day 3, I got mine 2L for 45C and 5L it myself).
Broken Crown - 1C
Leper's Alm - 1C
Boots - 6C (2C boot, 4C craft)
Wand - 6C
Mid Budget 88% All resistance (around 50D in total)
+2 Shav, either AOE or duration - 10D
Aegis Aurora - 16D
Impossible Escape (unwavering stance) - 6D. Imbalanced guard will work too (and will more armor) but it's more than double the cost of unwavering stance.
Forbidden Flame&Flesh - 5D for the pair
Crown of inward eyes (90% reservation implicit and aura enchant) -3D
Melding of the flesh (-4 max res) - 3D
Enlighten - optional if you have the helmet
Megalomaniac - optional, I was just looking for something that gives aura reservation efficiency (I like pure guile) and some max cold res. You can use a normal small cluster but will lose 1% max res.
What's next?
- More DPS!!
- You can also check out my older videos for reference but since the passive tree changed and there's some new jewels and gems so it'll be a little different.
Sorry I've been away for awhile, it's slightly harder to make currency this league and Aegis Aurora is more expensive than it's ever been!
In this update, we've gone tanky with Aegis Aurora, Melding of the Flesh and went 88% all elemental resistance. I also have 50K armour with flask up so I rarely die as long as I avoid the craziest one shot skills from big bosses.
DPS is also more than tripled from week 1 and I've cleared all content (including the feared) except the Uber pinnacle bosses.
It's quite a bit harder to tweak the build to my expectation because of the nerf to Melding and reservation. We used to be able to achieve such power with 30EX or less in 3.17/3.18 but I still get to do all content quite easily with this setup so no complaint there!
As always, I've included more details under note section in the POB.
I hope you enjoy this video, leave a comment if you have question. Don't forget to like and subscribe!
POB (3.19) : https://pastebin.com/hFkSd5L5
This POB includes the levelling trees, life/ES hybrid tree at T5, T11/12 right before I go LL and also the LL trees. There are item and skill sets for levelling and Life/ES Hybrid too! I'll continue to add in more information as I continue to upgrade this character.
