Your DPS is only realized on your 5th hit. So if you whiff the 5th (boss moves or something) or keeps kiting so you can't ramp to your 5th quickly you'll notice kills being slower.
Remember getting TO your 5th hit is way more important than some POB number. (TL:DR multistrike sucks)
Also remember to hit the button to get the merc next to you. I forget sometimes and it cuts my dps.
