To preface this, I absolutely adore Seismic Trap. Even if it's damage were halved I would probably still play it due to it's fantastic mechanical advantages:

  • It deals damage passively.

  • It deals damage in a large area, which is great for Maven invitations.

  • It's damage can be scaled right along with Quality of life in the form of trap throwing speed affecting it's wave frequency.

Saboteurs have long been the de facto choice for Seismic Trap due to it's large AoE scaling and Cooldown Recovery rate from Chain reaction. Saboteur also has great quality of life in 10% regen from Pyromaniac, as well as shock and ignite immunity, and to cap it off it grants free blind, which is great for evasion characters. It's an easy choice to make to go for Sab, but are there other options? The AoE from Chain reaction is now far less important for single target DPS considering the changes to Seismic's overlaps, so that aspect of damage scaling is really not that good anymore. 50% Cooldown Recovery rate for traps is great, but we start hitting diminishing returns pretty quickly with Advanced Traps and the Hasty Construction wheel. To put it into perspective I'm getting a 3 second cooldown compared to the 2.7 seconds cooldown of a Sab.

I've always been a fan of inquisitor, especially his consecrated ground mechanics. Ever since the update that added energy shield regen equal to life regen, he's been one of my favorites. His total recovery is almost unmatched outside of Vaal Pact Slayers, but Inquisitor's recovery is unconditional, you just have it all the time. Boss invuln phase where you can't leech but can still take damage? Still regenning. Desecrated/Burning ground with no mobs to leech from? Still regenning. Heavy bleed or ignite with no flask charges left? You guessed it, still regenning. Its a fantastic feeling to always have your max recovery rate ready to soak up damage.

With those out of the way, I thought to myself, why not combine the two?

My general framework was to fit in as much life recovery as possible, and to match that with ES recovery, as I wanted to go Low Life with Petrified Blood for the massive damage boost of Pain Attunement. Petrified Blood requires heavy recovery to sustain your life, and we've got that. Over 5k net regen with Righteous Fire on, 60k armour with flasks up, Divine Shield, max spell block, and to top it all off we hit the mythical 1M damage average hit with our Seismic Trap.

As a small note, this character is using the Pride + Eternal blessing combo, but with a few small tweaks in the form of a Pride reservation small cluster jewel and dropping Summon Skitterbots, we can still retain around 900k average hit without that crutch, which is still well over 10M total DPS.

Edit: The PoBs have been updated to adjust for the Pride bug fix, and now require at least an Enlighten 2, or possibly an Enlighten 3 if you have little to no mana rolls on your gear.

I've been slowly leveling and upgrading gear along the way, and fine-tuning the build to be better and better. For those wanting gameplay footage, here's a solidly juicy T16 Dunes with Legion/Breach/Beyond + a King Harbinger:

In the endgame I'm going to have about 800 more life and 600 more ES so the recovery and tankiness will be even better than shown here, as well as solidly more damage as I left some big damage nodes for well into level 90+.

I present to you, the Inquisitor Phys Trapper

Here is the current endgame PoB for level 100:

Or alternatively, I've created an Aegis Aurora version with more tankiness, and 73/75 Block/Spell Block (with Rumi's up) with 75k armour. Aegis Aurora builds are known to be nearly immortal against many hits, but this also has 4.5k net regen for when you're not getting hit that often; basically the best of both worlds, recovery against many hits, and against few. Has about 20% less damage, but the option is there for those that want to be as tanky as possible:
