DPS should be x3 what's in the PoB. I've adjusted gem levels already to account for the damage decrease of the new gem.
I've written this as a semi-guide to collect my ideas/thoughts. I will preface this post by saying that this PoB is a late night brainstorm when I was thinking about the new Tornado of Elemental Turbulence gem, it's probably not a good build. I am not recommending this and I only play softcore trade but I am keen to have a discussion or if anyone has any ideas on how I might make this work. Willing to accept it's just terrible too.
I really like the aesthetics of Tornado and I haven't played the new Chieftain. Thematically I also just like the Chieftain and wanted to combine the two.
The idea is to level similarly to an old BF/BB Chieftain until I get the new Tornado gem. I haven't tested this build yet but I believe it should give pretty consistent DPS with a relatively smooth playstyle and somewhat comfortable tankiness. Doesn't need to do bosses super fast, I'm not racing or going to be playing enough for that to matter but I want to be able to do them eventually. Ultimately I was keen to finally run a semi-original idea.

Bare in mind that levelling a spell casting Chieftain kinda sucks and this build will not be winning races but you should still be able to clear all acts reasonably quickly if you're good.
I've again taken inspiration from the old BF/BB Chieftain trees and replicated that as well as possible. I've taken nodes in the Ascendant area to enable the Combat Focus jewel. Tree is fairly straight forward.
Most of the gear should be fairly accessible by day 3-5 which is usually my timeline for level 90-95. I've tried to keep the gear as modest as possible with the exception of the Circle of Anguish rings and the Red Dream jewel. I've chosen mods on the rings that are useful for the build but should be more affordable by this point and the Red Dream drops in price significantly after a few days.
Given it is a Chieftain it won't be fast, that's something I'm not sure how to solve yet so I've chosen Kaom's Roots to make it so we can consistently walk through the map with our Tornados auto-targeting everything.
For weapons I've chosen to use two Replica Cold Iron Point daggers which are 5 chaos each on league start. The new Tornado gem has the cold damage tag and then we use Combat Focus jewels to only select Fire. The crit chance helps us keep EO up.
Immortal Flesh is a comfortable option early and gives a lot of life regen which is a big defensive mechanic in the build.
The Red Dream jewel gives us easy Endurance Charge generation when mapping. Would probably look to try solve this for bossing too.
The rest of the gear is rare with life, res and armour mods.
In the PoB I've kept Tornado 5 linked with Added Fire Damage, Elemental Focus, Fire Penetration and Lifetap. Eventually I'd look to add an Empower once I have the currency.
Lifetap solves our mana issues and with our regen we don't care about the cost.
We run Herald of Ash and Herald of Purity alongside Determination and Purity of Fire. This could be replaced with Purity of Elements for easy access to elemental ailment immunity.
Utility set-up is the standard Arcanist Brand with Flammability and Wave of Conviction. We link Combustion here to ensure bosses are ignited to make sure of the fire mastery where we deal increased damage against ignited enemies.
For movement, given we're using daggers, we can equip whirling blades and link faster attacks to hopefully help speed up the build.
Infernal Cry gives us easy access to Covered in Ash which isn't currently ticked in the config as I'm unsure how consistent this will be.
I'm not great with planning defenses but I've been able to reach 160% increased life on the tree with almost 5k hp and 83% all res pretty easily. We have ~700 life regen a second so should recover pretty well when we're damaged. We can't be stunned and if we take Purity of Elements we're ailment immune.
Happy for any ideas on how to make this build tankier. I have left space for a CWDT set-up on one of the weapons but I'm unsure what to run here.
This build is not insanely high damage at all. It might even be considered zDPS. I think there's definitely room to push more damage but currently we're getting 600k boss DPS. Looking for feedback to see if we could push this higher. I'm unsure if this is representative for how the build will feel as the DPS from Tornado is very consistent from what I've seen.
If we switch the Circle of Anguish rings to Fire Damage & Buff Effect we get to 750k DPS. Adding an Empower puts us at 972k DPS. Checking covered in Ash gets us over 1m.
Realistically this build would probably top-up around 2m DPS if I had to estimate but my goal with any league starter is to get to 1m comfortably.
I'm super keen to run an original build idea this league. I was looking at doing the Arma Brand Sabo recaller and depending on the feedback here I still might. I feel this build will be super smooth to play with satisfying clear and consistent boss DPS. This entire idea may be better converting to cold on Occultist or tri-ele as a Raider/Inquisitor or Elementalist. I like the Chieftain and prefer fire spells. Any feedback is welcomed!
