Balaar's Notes
Deathless A10 All Skill Points and Story Lab run using Wave of Conviction on Elementalist in 3h36m22s with additional damage provided by hydrosphere and stormburst totems. I have always really enjoyed Wave of Conviction and wanted to see if I could play a build to get some pretty big shocks for speed leveling purpose. Wave of Conviction serves as a good vehicle for fat shocks because of its good base damage. However, Wave has two major limitations. first specific to the goal of large shocks is that Wave isn't full lightning. This is mitigated by using Shaper of Storms to allow us to get better shocks, allowing all damage to shock, and consistently having lightning be the largest damage type through crafts, support gems, and skill tree passives. Second and more generally as a primary DPS skill Wave can be somewhat limited by the fact that you can only have 1 wave active at a time. This second limitation is somewhat mitigated by fact that Waves do not disappear immediately when you cast more than one making it so if you stand close enough to boss, you will not accidently overwrite your waves. Nonetheless, as you get more cast speed, you will have to be more mindful of not cancelling waves before they do damage especially the further you are away from your target. Ultimately, this was a fun experiment in trying to make a lightning based elementalist build.

Vendor Regex: Act 1 until Level 23: "!to b|bow|hand|claw|dag" scep|b-.|.-b|nn 24 and Beyond (for 4Ls or 4 sockets): "sockets .-.-.|([rgbw][ -.]){3}"
Some Questions and Answers: What does the 1-23 regex do? So, that regex was designed to show a lot of items with at least one blue socket linked to at least one other socket of any color. However, I found that this would highlight to many items and be too permissive as I didn't care about things like shields, staves, bows, claws, two-handed axes/swords, daggers, and so on, that had a blue socket linked to something else. Thus, that regex above will make it so I will see all sceptres regardless of links/colors and any glove, boot, body armour, or helm that has at least one blue socket linked to at least one other socket. As a result, I can still be pretty permissive in what items I see, but the range of items that gets highlighted is much more limited making it easier to find what I need. I only use this regex at the armour vendor as theres no point in doing it at wand/jewellery vendor.
Why do you swap from Orb of Storms to Hydrosphere? I find hydrophere to be a little less limiting than OoS in terms of how you can position relative to the boss and as a result requires less recasting than OoS does. As a result, even if OoS does more damage on paper than hydrosphere, hydrosphere allows for better uptime and flexibility for my primary DPS skill Wave, which I found to result in better performance overall for the build. Moreover, hydro is a lot nicer to use to just tap packs with to kill them or to get stragglers as compared to OoS. There is also nice synergy with fact that Hydro benefits from Herald of Ash while OoS really doesn't in any meaningful sense.
Why herald of ash/herald of purity? Herald of Ash and Herald of Purity both scale very nicely with the physical damage components of Wave, Stormburst, and Hydrosphere. Eventually, we transition away from Purity in order to use a 50% defensive aura like determination. Herald of Ash also provides nice clear utility as Wave typically with overkill most mobs allowing a decent sized burn to pick up pack stragglers.
