TL;DR: On my Grey Wind life-stacker Chieftain, Static Strike feels best on bosses in practice, even without dodging, despite PoB showing that skills like Smite of Divine Judgement or Infernal Blow of Immolation should be ahead. This is on Saresh — thanks GGG for finally giving us the test target dummy we very much needed. Is the level 30 Ancestral Call from ascendancy doing something extra for Static Strike on single target that PoB/common assumptions for single beam dps don’t account for?
Static Strike bossing should be about 20% slower. It is, in fact, about 20% faster.
I started from Peuget2’s life-stacking Smite Chieftain, but adapted it for PlayStation market reality. No life-corrupted Rathpiths and such on PS market, so I couldn’t scale life high enough to use the same defensive shell and went with a big armour chest instead (got super lucky on a second essence hit!).

My PoB:
Peuget2 uses Smite of Divine Judgement, but on controller I can’t target off-boss to get the area overlap value out of it, so I started checking other attack skills in the same shell. What I found is that updated base Static Strike is amazing:
-
Static Strike + Greater Chain for easy mapping.
-
Infernal Blow + Faster Attacks when Delirium + Beyond + altars get too dense.
-
Static Strike (with Hypothermia instead of Chain) still feels best on bosses.
That’s the weird part.
On Saresh, Static Strike consistently kills faster for me than the “better” PoB options, even when I’m basically standing still and hitting. Earlier, Static got Saresh to quarter-life in about 10s while Smite of Divine Judgement took about 15s.
For reference, in PoB with equal assumptions, Infernal Blow of Immolation is about 5.8m while Static Strike is about 4.7m, so this is not a tiny difference. In the video, about 15% of Static’s advantage comes from the Cruelty imbue, but even after accounting for that, Static still seems to outperform in practice.

The thing I keep coming back to is the level 30 Ancestral Call from ascendancy. PoE Wiki says Static Strike beam damage is damage from the attack that granted static energy, but I can’t find a clear answer for whether Ancestral Call can create more than one effective beam source or beam state on single target.
I’m not trying to prove a mechanic — I’m just getting the same result repeatedly in testing, not just on Saresh, and I can’t explain it from PoB or manual calculations.
