RexDragonfly's Notes
This is kinda bad showcase of the build I'm currently playing, but I'm showing it anyway so that people will get the idea of winter orb gameplay. Please read my explanation of the skill itself why I'm not recommending playing it if your budget is low or trying to build the same way as I did. Considering with a headhunter, it does not carry you on mapping at all if your DPS is shit. You need a bare minimum of 1 or 2 million DPS in order to keep stacking up more buffs by killing rare monsters across the map. Theoritically with all the projectiles hit the same target, this build still doesn't crack a million DPS, such a shame.
Okay, now for the main explanation. This is the first time I'm playing Winter Orb, yet I immediately found out the biggest flaw of this skill which still makes it a very bad skill to play even after the 3.17 buff. The skill will fire all projectiles in sequence, at certain frequency that is affected by your cast speed and state of channeling or not. You will notice the projectiles are not hitting the same target at close/very close range, only 1 or 2 projectiles out of 6 will hit the same target only at such situation. You will need to position yourself at mid range (about 40 units) in order to allow all projectiles to overlap. However, in real situations most monsters are gonna just ramping up close to you immediately and you will never be able to stand still for the optimal range at all. The skill itself is much worse against fast moving target where all your projectiles lagging behind the target that Winter Orb is trying to aim automatically.
Despite of the flaw mentioned, I might have planned the build wrong entirely. My initialy thoughts of this build is that I can stack as much auras as I can by going low life since I manage to 6-link the shav successfully under 1k fusings. Apparently I'm wrong and this is probably the worst way of doing it while the character is under level or budget. Playing this build since Lv70 to 87 after transitioning is not enjoyable at all, simply because it is hard to keep up the headhunter buffs with low DPS.
Gonna start to scrap off the gears and try to salvage them into other builds. Current upcoming build lists are Burning Arrow, Brutus Lead Sprinkler and Smite. Probably go with Wintertide brand first, because DoT builds can bypass all the annoying proximity shields from monsters. Especially for farming blighted maps this could be a great alternative besides minion builds.
