Lightning trap seemed like the obvious choice for sunblast to me - the impact of the delayed trigger is a lot less of an issue when you are filling the screen with projectiles.
Not many people seemed to be talking about it/playing it though. Finally started giving it a go. Its a work in progress - any suggestions for improvements greatly appreciated!

Actual DPS is a bit tricky - I've added multiple hits per trap, but in reality they aren't all hitting. But we also get to preload a lot of the time.
I've got a few unused points I'm deciding what to do with - I want to get a watchers eye at least (Probably grace spell suppression hopefully with something else useful).
A few possibly controversial choices
- Trickster ascendancy. Sab doesn't seem to offer that much for sunblast and non aoe traps. I seriously considered deadeye too - for a pure mapper its a good option.
- No melding of the flesh. I'm at < 200% res without it, and didn't feel that upping my max fire res was worth reducing my max cold, and my effective max light res. I am a bit weak vs ignites though.
- Frenzy charge stacking . We DO get frenzy charges, but seems to rely on skitterbots triggering the traps (Otherwise I'd probably drop skitterbots). It can be a bit slow to get charges up sometimes, and if you do lose them its painful (Charges last ages with trickster though). I did try an accumulator wand but that was very slow to ramp up. Might be worth if I can find a really good one.
Pros and cons (As I say, work in progress, not played that long with it)
Pros
- Clear, especially on open maps is good for a trapper.
- Can fill the area with damage just like spark, but still decent damage on big stages (Not relying on bounces)
- Single target is pretty good
- Most of the time mapping is safe. Trickster life on kill is incredible.
Cons
- Pre-load is tricky, need to get timings right, and you can 'overthrow' and reset your old traps.
- Not as much damage as explosive trap.
- Any lightning dots kill us - our defences only work vs hits. Oops.
- Dots in general are bad, we have very little recovery apart from on kill. I would drop perfect crime (which is a LOT of damage) for pyromaniac, but I'm not sure if the life regen works at all with sunblast.
Build isn't too expensive apart from the Doryani chest - I managed to grab the +2 6l one for a similar price to a normal one, but it's not needed. Colouring a corrupt one is a bit of a pain too. My rings were fairly cheap as was the dagger (Can definitely be improved).
Eyes of the greatwolf might be expensive, there aren't that many available. If you don't get the pierce implicit, get as a helm enchant (We don't really need the reservation enchant). Or just grab on the tree.
The real spendy bit would be the lethal pride - there is a seed number that gives 5 chance to double damage nodes. But unless you snipe one, its very expensive. My current one was cheap, but gives 2 lots of double damage chance, bit of fire res which helps and a life node. If you can get a few flat/% strength nodes it helps gearing too.
