It may not be actual Essence Drain but Essence Drain of Desperation is legit powerful. You can get ~3M Uber Pinnacle DPS with Doable gear. Yes, not having Awakened gems did nerf it by about 500K DPS but its still quite powerful.

3.29 Updated Patch Notes have both Essence Drain DoT Gems gaining about 15% MORE DPS. Its almost back to having Awakened Gems.
