Some leagues ago I tried to make a void sphere PoB and ultimately failed. The gem has 2 main issues: You can only have 1 void sphere out at a time, and it has a *massive* 10 second cooldown. In order to make Void Sphere a viable main skill with no other damage skills to support it, I needed to solve both of these very difficult problems.
Problem 1 is much easier. Having one void sphere out at a time means that if you can just get your AoE big enough, you'll succ the whole screen and you wont need to cast another until you move. I chose Occultist and power charge stacking in order to help with the massive AoE requirement. The occy pops also help clear stuff at the edges that maybe don't get hit by the sphere, but also do HUGE overlap damage at the center, where lots of mobs get pulled in.
Problem 2 is the real problem. 10 seconds of cooldown seems insurmountable. Luckily, I was able to find 2 solutions here that made it work. First, the build scales quality from ashes and Dialla's to get our Anomalous VS to 80% quality. This provides an insane 160% increased cooldown recovery rate! However, it also presents us with a downside: 160% reduced skill effect duration. That means we need 60% duration just to get back to *zero*.
I solve this with some nodes on the tree and a 53% increased skill effect duration Cane of Kulemak. However, all this isn't enough to comfortably map. At this stage, VS has a 3 second cooldown and just feels too clunky to map with (however bossing with this is fine, as the AoE is huge and the duration is 4.4 seconds, so you have full uptime).
The solution for mapping is a 40% quality anomalous second wind (any more is a waste and lowers your CDR). This provides 3 additional charges, allowing us to cast 4 times while recovering charges in the background. This results in incredibly smooth gameplay and somehow, a wonderful mapping experience.
Void Sphere is a bit of a meme, sure, but this isn't a meme build. This actually works! Of course, the result probably isn't "worth" the investment, but at the end of the day, my goal was just to see if I could make it work. As it turns out, a properly build void sphere is incredibly fun and *kinetic* to play with. The full screen S U C C action is remarkably satisfying. I hope you enjoy and as always, take care!
