(credit goes to ds_lily since it's based on the SSFHC VD/DD build she played in 3.16)
I've played VD/DD spellslinger since 3.16, and it's been nerfed every patch since thanks to ignite DD being so strong - it still lives, however, and is a fantastic build to league start with; I've played it to 100 twice and 98 this league when I decided to try out FR CoC instead (far superior build but at a price :P)
Pros: easy to gear, cheap, reasonably tanky with nice clear, juiiicy explosions
Cons: Low single-target (although in 3.18 I did Maven with 3-man health deathless with day 2 gear), need MTX to hide all the Volatile Dead balls, not running any defensive auras and just relies on max block and high life + ES pool, may destroy your PC.
This isn't a build for everyone, but it has very smooth leveling into maps into end-game progression. Just run your choice of spell (spark, holy flame totem, stormblast mines etc) into Armageddon Brand + Cremation until you snag the 3rd lab (Plaguebringer, Corpse Pact, Essence Glutton) and start slinging. Pick up an Imbued Wand and toss an added flat fire damage to attacks/spells essence and you're good to go.
We also want to snag two lvl 21 Spellslinger gems (3c~) and the 30% Spellslinger RMR lab enchant asap on any base (5-10c), which also lets us run Herald of Ash. If mana is too rough to sustain, pick up a Replica Conqueror's Efficiency and at least one non-channeling mana craft.
After that, focus on getting a 6L Inpulsa (should be even easier now that tainted currency is back; get 6 sockets, 5L it, beastcraft to 30% quality + corruption and then pray), and The Red Nightmare (a bit expensive at start since it requires a Chalupa Blessing) and Calamitous Visions. Red Nightmare comboes very well with Wyrmsign for zoomies and some more defenses. Then get a flammability on hit ring and a damage/buff effect HoA Circle of Anguish. Or maybe a RMR + damage/buff effect ring, since they removed the mana reservation mastery, havent been able to test it yet.
I also like to pick up Death's Rush early on but it now grants adrenaline instead, which is even better for us since we also run Rotgut for perma-onslaught anyway.
The Surrender is a fantastic shield until you can afford a high life, high block/spell block shield with % life on block. If you block chances are <75% you can also opt for Replica Reckless Defence and a spell damage cluster jewel with block mods on it.
