Balaar's Notes

---- Version 1 of Notes Section (Last Updated 2/26/2026) ---- Below is some information to help make leveling Shockwave Cyclone Slayer easier including Link setups, Notable Passive Orders, Gem Acquisition, Solving Attributes, and some questions and answers. This run will typically end around Lvl 61/62 based on how I normally XP since Cyclone Shockwave can XP so well. As a result, I will plan for the run to end at about 62. ---- Gear and Weapon Acquisition ---- We will be using Maces at Lvl 28 onwards. To get 4Ls, gamble from vendor at around Lvl 25. Look to gamble pure armor bases for 4L setup for Cyclone and General's Cry Need to use a heavy belt by mid A2 onwards (Lvl 16) to avoid strength issues from the right side pathing to PT we do early. Take Lapis amulet from Dialla quest in A3. ---- Links ---- Frostblades: Used for clear until Lvl 12 when we swap to Sunder for both clear and single target Lvl 1 to 12: Frostblades (G) - Ancestral Call (R) - Any reasonable damage support Spectral Throw: Used for single until Lvl 12 when we swap to Sunder for both clear and single target. Use decoy totem to help with single target positioning Lvl 4 to 12: Spectral Throw (G) - Momentum (G) - Any reasonable Damage Support - Any Reasonable Damage Support (We use momentum because its a fantastic cheap support for spectral throw) Sunder: Use from 12 to 28 Lvl 12 to 28: Sunder (R) - Melee Phys (R) / Ruthless (R) - Any reasonable damage support - Any reasonsable damage support (Often momentum is good as a greenlink) Cycone: 28 onwards Lvl 28: Cyclone (G) - Shockwave (R) - Pulverize (R) - Rage Support (R) / Fortify Support (R) [after getting Rage on hit on tree which is usually around A6, we swap Rage for Fortify] General's Cry Earthshatter: Lvl 28: Earthshatter (R) - General's Cry (R) - Autoexert (R) - Maim (R) / Melee Phys (R) [Your preference on whether you want the damage benefit from maiming target for Cyclone or just more damage from gen cry via melee phys] Reservations and Utility: Until 28: Herald of Ash (R), and Blood and Sand (R). Use low level Precision (G) as needed to fix accuracy issues for PT once acquiring PT Second half of campaign (need to have some source of mana leech, should have some by this point if following passive order): A6 and onwards: Herald of Ash (R), Flesh and Stone (R), Blood and Sand (R), General's Cry Auto Exert (R), and PT (G) as neeeded. Priortize Ash (R), Gen Cry Autoexert (R), and PT (G) if having mana issues/accuracy issues Curse: A2 onwards (through entire campaign): Poacher's Mark (G). If green sockets become a problem, can drop poacher's mark for Vulnerability (R), be warned sustain on single could be annoying if you do so. Utility: A1 onwards: Decoy Totem (R) use to help setup spectral throw positioning and to otherwise soak damage on single target scenarios A2 onwards (through entire campaign): Blood Rage (G) Lvl 12 to 28: Intimidating Cry (R) for Sunder double damage when exerted by Intimidating cry Lvl 28 onwards: Desecrate (G) for corpse generation on single target for General's Cry Movement: Lvl 4 to Lvl 10: Dash (G). You can use shield charge (R) weapon swap tech with a shield in offhand, but for ease of management, I do not recommend this, just use dash Lvl 10: Leap Slam (R) - Faster Attacks (G) Whenever you can fit and have int: Frostblink (B). You do not need to level frostblink up. It is not a big deal if you only use leap slam and skip frostblink. Frostblink just adds some nice animation cancellation, flexibility with positioning, and some additional speed ---- Comments on Passive Pathing Order ---- Use +30 strength node near PT (Beef) as needed. We can often spec into out of it at various points depending on strength requirements. Later in run can respec out of the 2x 16% physical attack damage nodes on left side of Duelist starting path to the two small health notables nearby for 4% life and 6% armour/evasion Act 2: We respec mana flows after getting the +30 intelligence node near PT and getting Bravey (health nodes near Duelist) If mana is an issue with reservation change to autoexert in 3.28, can drop the attack wheel for efficiency for that stances, drop blood and sand, and instead place points into mana reservation nodes in Leader of the Pack. Can also take some damage nodes out and click on Life Mastery for 15% of cost to spent in life. In video, you can get onslaught via Graceful Assault earlier than I did. I essentially waited to get first rage node in the Veteran Combatant wheel, but instead you could take the first rage node in Vegeance Cluster and then respec it later into first node in Veteran Combatant cluster. Once you click PT, check your accuracy. You may need to equip precision right away or go back to A1 and buy precision to do so. ----- Gem Acquisition ----- Ranger Mule/Hillock Kill/First Town Enter Rewards/Buys: - Quest Reward: Take Frost Blades (G) Hailrake/Mercy Mission Rewards/Buys: - Quest Reward: Take Ancestrall Call Support (R) Submerged Passage Open/Cracking Some Eggs Rewards/Buys (1 wisdom needed for vendor buy, 1 additional wisdom for optional buy): - Quest Reward from first set of rewards: Take Decoy Totem (R) - Quest Reward from second set of rewards: Take Dash (G) - Buy Spectral Throw (G) from Nessa - Optional: Buy Frostblink (B), if didn't buy here buy at return from Fairgraves Lower Prison Enter Rewards/Buys: - Quest Reward: Take Faster Attacks (G) Brutus Kill Reward/Buys: - Quest Reward: Leap Slam (R) Merveil Cavern's Enter Reward/Buys [Need 2 transmutes, 1 wisdom; additional 1 transmute and 1 wisdom for optional buys]: - Quest Reward: Take Earthshatter (R) and level in off hand on weapon swap. - Vendor Buy: Sunder (R) and Intimidating Cry (R) for 2 transmutes, and Blood and Sand for 1 wisdom - Optional: If you have extra transmute, buy Precision (G) now for PT in A2. Buy Frostblink (b) if you don't have yet Fidelitas Kill/Intruders in Black/Baleful Gem Collection Reward/Buys: - Quest Reward: Take Poacher's Mark (G) - Buy from Yeena: Herald of Ash (R) and Blood Rage (G) Weaver Kill Reward/Buys: - Quest Reward: Take Melee Physical (R) The Way Forward Act 1 Return Buys: - Buy Precision (G) from Nessa (doesn't have to be now, only really need if accuracy for PT is cursed, but becasue we don't get PT until A4, you can delay buying until like 28 so you can have some insurance against accuracy issues once we eventually get to spec PT, we want to buy before 28 to avoid precision having too high of a flat reservation cost since almost all melee builds don't scale mana at all) Lost in Love/A3 Tolman Reward/Buys: - Quest reward: Doesn't matter Opening Mines Reward in A4: - Quest Reward: Doesn't matter, take any gem you prefer Opening the Harvest Reward in A4: - Quest Reward: Doesn't matter Libray Buys (1 Chance Orb, 4 Alterations for first Library Trip, currency requirements vary for later trips which you make as needed [will need 1 alteration for Flesh and Stone at somepoint in A6]): - Take Pulverize (R) - Buy Fortify (R) - Buy Rage Support (R) - Buy Autoexert (R) - Buy General's Cry (R) - Buy Desecrate (G) - Buy gems as needed to fill out damage links/reservations for second half. Such as life tap for convenience for Leap Slam. Buy Flesh and Stone (r) at some point during A6, for defensive option while clearing by using sand stance ---- Solving Attributes and Resistances ---- Attributes: We will be using/buying a Lapis Amulet and taking the Lapis Amulet from A3 quest for turning in the Ribbon Spool to Dialla. We will use a heavy belt (strength belt) by about mid A2 to help with strength issues as maces require a good amount of strength. Beyond that we will various attribute nodes on trees as needed. The +30 nodes for strength and intelligence near PT come in clutch here. Resistances: We will help alira to get the 15% res to make campaign easier/smooth on resistance. Additionally, we will get weather hunter and cloth and chain before start of A6 to help ensure we have capped resistance and/or can reach it with crafts after the A5 Kitava resistance penalty applies. In terms of rings, I typically like having a Sapphire Ring with crafted fire res and a Topaz ring with craft fire res. I will replace these with rare rings if they drop if said rare rings have a resistance on them already with an open suffix or have giga life and an open suffix. Otherwise, I won't replace and just keep going with the crafted sapphire and topaz ring. Usually, I obtain the sapphire and topaz ring from the iron ring + blue/green gem recipe respectively if I cannot get them as a drop. Occassionally, will buy straight from vendor. ----- Some Questions and Answers ---- Work in progress still
