I wanted to try a new build this league and the new chieftain. It's clear that the new chieftain should use the two fire resistance nodes so for this build we will stack a lot of fire resistance. By that we will have 90% elemental maximum resistances. In addition, we will use the mod: "Armour is increased by Overcapped Fire Resistance" first on a formless flame helmet and eventually on a grasping mail to gain a lot of armour and physical mitigation. If we want to be extreme (and we probably want), we can also use a forbidden flame/flesh jewels to grab the unbreakable notable from the jugg to be really unkillable (from elemental damage). For physical damage we want to convert as much as possible damage from physical to elemental using lightning coil, watcher eye's mod and at the endgame mods on the helmet and body armour (replacing lightning coil). I believe that this setup can facetank most if not all the content of the game.
Originally, I wanted to use dual replica dreamfeathers and heavy strike to use the high armour for damage as well. The DPS was really high but then I realized that trauma does not work with swords...
To solve this, I switched to boneshatter and pillars of the caged got, exploiting our mitigation to get more damage in addition to the extra raw damage from trauma. You can ask, why should we use this staff when the league contains tattoos that replace attributes. This is overall correct but chieftain is unique by the fact that all our suffixes are free as we only need fire resistance to cap all the others. Therefore, we can fill all the other suffixes with attributes (specifically strength and dexterity).
This is a very endgame build with speculations about the damage from trauma support but this can work to lesser extant without any of the really cool items I added there, the watcher's eye and the impossible escape.
