So I have been wanting to play blade trap for a bit of time and ever since I saw the post that showed off that Fatal flourish is basically 160% more damage for attack trap builds I knew that I had to do it. I have no idea if this interaction is intented so this build might only have its full potential in Sentinel league.
Ascendancy
--------------------------
Champion is really just an amazing ascendancy and it is really capable of doing everything. It has so much defense and damage that there is really no other choice. We go for Unstoppable Hero and Fortitude for the stun immunity and permanent fortify. We then go for Inspirational for the giant aura effect and the free banner. And as last we get First to Strike, Last to Fall, permanent Intimidate and a really great buff that we can trigger every 20 seconds.
I dont think it is worth trying a different Ascendency as champion is just unmatched.
Gearing
--------------------------
The perseverance belt is really crazy because we scale armour and evasion really well because we are a champion. Without any flasks we have 47k armour and evasion which translates to 235% increased attack damage from perseverance.
Mark of the elder is a great ring for damage as we both want added elemental and % increased damage. Using catalysts on this will give us a really high amount of damage. Great thing about this ring is that we can get a nice corruption for relatively cheap. For example im using the Cannot Be Ignited corruption because I really value ignite immunity but u could also get determination/grace/anger aura effect. Using this ring does require us to use a shaper ring which can roll a nice flat damage modifier.
Im using the new Eternal Struggle amulet for a bunch of stats and a 15% cull. This amulet can roll eldritch implicits which allows us to get an aura effect one which scales our defense and damage greatly.
This build makes use of Secrets of suffering to cap our crit and lower resistances of enemies. I dont see a good reason to not use secrets of suffering in these type of attack builds as it makes crits really easy and gives us just a great amount of damage.
For our weapons we are using 2 paradoxica's with elemental penetration and critical strike multiplier while a rare/unique enemy is nearby. I used rare rapiers for a while before it was pointed out by u/carlovski99 that paradoxica's are more damage if u get more flat damage through supports.
The rest of the gear are rares with resistances and spell suppresion chance. If u wanna go really big then u can get chaos resistance but we do get around 0% chaos resistance through the tree and we are using an Amethyst flask.
Jewels
--------------------------
The Fatal Flourish jewels are the thing that sends the build into overdrive. Now to be clear I leveled this build up to level 95 before slapping these jewels in and it felt amazing before. I did all the main bosses(non-uber) without the jewels. But even if the build works without if u have the money u have to get these. They are 160% more damage so if u have the money u should definitely grab them.
For the Watcher's Eye im using a critical strike multiplier Anger with life recovery rate Vitality. Now the best scenario would be something with Precision and Anger multiplier but those are super expensive. Regen feels really good so its still a great Watcher's Eye.
Im using a Glorious Vanity with Doryani to get a bunch of energy shield. This is really strong because we have massive amounts of evasion and ghost shrouds. If we get hit we recover 1300 energy shield and if its elemental we will regen life with our Vitality aura.
For clusters u can really do ur own thing as u can scale with alot of things like attacks/area/traps/elemental damage/sword damage. I went for a large cluster for dual wielding with Deadly Repartee, Calamitous and Smite the weak. Smite the weak being pretty important as it gives u maim which makes enemies that move stand in ur blade trap area's longer. For medium clusters I went for trap clusters as they are very hard to beat because of guerilla tactics. Its just a great node for damage and speed. In addition we are using surprise sabotage for some elemental penetration and critical strike multiplier.
Im personally using a Wise Oak flask with increased effect as I personally think its a really good flask because it has great uptime and really great benefits for this build. For bosses u can replace the Quartz flask with a Bottled Faith with increased effect but it is definitely not needed.
For our blade trap to feel good we are using Divergent Blade Trap for its rotation speed increase. This will give us more burst damage but lower our uptime of the trap. We must manage the mana cost of the traps. Im doing this through the helmet eldritch implicit, inspiration support, alternate quality trap and mine damage support and a low level clarity. If u are playing this build and struggling with this then use lifetap instead of inspiration.
A really important part of the build is the divine blessing setup with Anger. If we do not have this active we lose about 50% of our damage. This is because we scale aura effect and it triggers our adrenaline. We grab 2 mana nodes on the tree to make the life cost just over 50%, this entirely depends on how much life and mana u have so keep a close look at it because its very important. We use it every 20 seconds and it is definitely annoying in the beginning.
