I have been running cremation this league from basically when I could afford the gear and gems, but set myself a challenge to recreate what I had early in league and make it as cheap as I could. Yes, I leveled from 87 to 99 doing Sims (no, I'm not sane, exile). I literally threw together this build in under and hour and filmed the results.
This is not a version that can run ubers (it can run pinnacles tho). This is not a min-maxed version by any means. This was "other than required gems/uniques that I HAVE to have to make it work, what can I get away with?" and seriously spending about 10 minutes crafting at most.
I could theoretically also drop the watchers eye and just go leech in the mastery but I find that the ES on hit really really refills the ES after a hit, plus it was only 1d.
You can see that I only got 4 rewards in the end of the wave but considering the cost and the fact that you can really only get better from here, that's not too bad IMO.
Pros: Can clear sims on the cheap, upgrades only make it faster and more powerful
Cons: You're running sims and you're tickling them to death in later waves.
This version: 6/10 (price gives it a good boost).
Proper endgame version 8/10 (can handle pinnacles and ubers but sucks at map clearspeed).

One last note on the config: PoB sucks at "DPS" for this build as it's trying to do average hit x cast speed. Take average hit and multiply by number of projectiles spat by cremation every second (8) and you get a better figure. Also, I didn't tick on flasks or Low Life (for Punishment) because I don't like fluffed up PoBs, but you can see in Sims that flasks are basically always up.
If you have any quesitons let me know, I'm going to re-spec to something less whisper-insanity-inducing.
EDIT: This is the (much better and overall more expensive) version I recently got rid of to try poison spark https://pastebin.com/fCd0TBzS
Note that Low Life and flasks are not ticked, neither is Molten Shell or Frost Shield.
