I posted this build a couple days ago and have since taken it to level 100. It's incredibly satisfying to play if you like big explosions. The playstyle may not be for everyone though so keep that in mind.

When I join rotas I always get question about what skill I'm using because Voltaxic Burst has never been meta so a lot people don't even know that it exists. They usually assume it's a Discharge skin with either CoC or 100% chance to not consume charges.

This build uses the new Fury of Nature notable for Ranger to spread chill/shock/freeze for screenwide ailments that serve as the core of the defense and damage of the build. We are converting 100% of lighting to chaos damage for Voltaxic Burst thanks to Voltaxic Rift bow and can also shock up to 100% with 100% more effect from Fury Of Nature (seems pob doesn't calculate the more effect).

The playstyle consists of first building up some stacks of VB at the start of the map and from then on alternating between VB and Lightning Warp to clear. This will help offset the delay from VB so that you are exploding packs as you land and then casting for the next pack right after. Once you have enough HH stacks you can just run around casting while only using LW as needed. For bosses try to build up as many waiting casts as you can and then if possible have them go off while standing still with 3 intensify stacks for the most damage.

The defense comes from 100% spell supression, Grace, Determination, Defiance Banner and a Skin of the Lords with Iron Reflexes for 50k armour (without flasks). We use Divine Flesh with 81% max chaos resistance for another layer of defense. Everything will also be chilled/frozen from Chilling Presence notable + Rain of Arrows + Anomalous Hypothermia + Fury Of Nature combo. For example, you can run around the first part of Glacier and safely round up enemies while opening chests because RoA will keep everything slowed/frozen with 100% more effect and perma phasing prevents getting blocked by enemies. If you start taking damage, you can travel several screens away in seconds with lightning warp.

I levelled as Voltaxic burst and it was okay. Not perfect but playaable with the built-in clear. I used a Bisco's Leash and The Eternal Struggle with spell/lightning damage implicits and EoW dominance before HH and Ashes so the build does function without them which makes the overall cost not overly restrictive. The low supply of forbidden jewels could make that the most difficult piece to acquire. The Voltaxic Rift doesn't need to be 6-linked, 4-link is enough. The other sockets are for Desecrate to help with life recovery and to run maps with mods that hurt ES sustain and portal or whatever you gem want. You can put Power Charge on Crit, Ice Bite or another Anomalous Hypothermia linked to LW too if you want suggestions. Tried innervate but it only lasts 1 second from all the reduced duration for Lightning Warp. Culling strike is an option but I was spending more time trying to time the cull than just letting VB hit a couple more times to finish the job. I settled on portal since my bow is already 6-linked and LW supports give it 159% cast speed, not too often a build gets to run portal without any sacrifice so why not.

You can gem swap Awakened AoE with Awakend Controlled Destruction for bosses but I don't bother because I hate gem swapping. I don't know if you'll find the same Megalomaniacs but Chilling Presence and Uncompromising are the most important. One Eternal suffering is probably enough and Septic Spells can be replaced with any generic increased chaos/lightning spell damage notable, the poison isn't doing much. If I were to take the build further I think some easy improvements would be to get better boots/gloves, find a way to generate endurace chages, replace the Impossible Escape with a rare jewel or Thread of Hope and potentially convert to crit instead of Elemental Overload. I don't think going the increased duration route is the way. It is more dps but it doesn't feel good to play. Anomalous Voltaxic Burst already adds just enough duration to border on being annoying at times. 21/23 VB is still good damage (plus bigger aoe) and a lot cheaper if you don't like the feel of the extra duration. You can also use gloves without the Despair implicit and run RoA Hextouch Despair in Maloney's or even just use Witchfire Brew flask. Finding decent gloves with spell supression can be a pain when also looking for Despair implicit.

I've been playing this game for years and making my own builds for a bit now but making builds is complicated so feel free to make suggestions if you see anything that could be improved. I was honestly expecting this to be yet another failed venture but it ended up being one of my favorite builds in a while.


The pob is configured with average/non-burst damage and I also changed the hit taken to 10k/20k/15k for phys/ele/chaos. With that setup we're looking at 85k EHP, 28k phys max hit, 88k ele max hit and 70k chaos max hit with 4 million Guardian/Pinnacle DPS. In game the shock will go above 30% (up to 100%) but it has to ramp and you can get more than 20 casts waiting for VB, plus we still have Vaal Haste and flasks to consider so DPS can go higher at times but I feel the current settings give a good representation of average gameplay scenarios.
