Hey everyone. Here is what I have been playing this league. After farming some money on my league start DD necro, I decided I wanted to play some spark. I saw a video from @az_charlie (check out his channel!) and thought it looked good but wanted to make a few tweaks.
Since the removal of phantasmal spark, it's been quite tricky to play poison spark. First you need to spark capable of poisoning. There you have two choices Volkuur's Guidance or Original Sin. Volkuur's are cheap, but the less duration kills your damage, and losing your glove slot sucks. Original Sin is very strong, but very expensive.
Next, you have to solve for poison chance. Necropolis league introduced a few new options here - poison chance tattoos on int nodes, and poison chance elder quiver (made easy with fractures). I initially played with tattoos, but dropped them after crafting a gg quiver.
OK so now our spark can poison - how do we make it feel good? Spark requires a several variables to maximize damage and clear - proj speed, proj count, pierce, and duration.
Proj speed and pierce is solved via Widowhail + quiver. With just 2 gear slots we get over 260% inc proj speed and 7 pierce (not to mention the 300+ life and capped chaos res).
Proj count comes from Spark of the Nova. I tested all 3 sparks and found nova to easily the best for mapping and not noticeably worse for bossing. Therefore, I never gem swap.
Finally, duration. Our tree grabs all the duration we can the 2 scion wheels and extra nodes from our thread. Duration does not show as a damage increase in POB, but it is one of the biggest scaling vectors in game. The longer your spark lasts, the more times it can hit!
Another problem we have to solve this league is mana. With the flask craft gone, we need reduced cost somewhere else. For this build, we get it from a Militant Faith w/ reduced cost per devotion. Sticking this and an Unnatural Instinct by scion gives us 22% reduced mana cost - almost an old flask's worth :)
Next, let's talk defense. This build gets incredibly tanky despite having no armour or evasion - how do we do it? For single-hit mitigation, we go 90% all res with a juiced Topaz flask, Purity of Lightning, and Melding. Next we add Progenesis and recoup. When we take a big hit, 33% will be taken over time instead of instantly, and 25% is cancelled out by recoup. For phys mitigation, we convert as much as we can to ele with Lightning Coil, crafted helm, and Watchers Eye. For multi-hit mitigation, we simply put on Defiance of Destiny. The item is completely broken. If a hit does less than 40% of your max health, you live. Add in Arctic Armour, some endurance charges, and a high uptime automated immortal call, and we've ourselves a big character.
That's all I've got to say about this build for now. It's an absolute blast to play. I will probably upload another video showcasing some T17 maps. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!
