This a build showcase for my 1-button Galvanic Field Pathfinder. Its a work in progress and far from optimized, but its still really smooth and satisfying in its current state. I'd love to hear any advice and ideas on how to improve this further.
Build Theory
- Phantasmal Galvanic Field gives +0.05 to base radius per 10% shock on enemy. We scale its quality with Ashes + Dialla's.
- We raise our maximum shock cap with Voltaxic Rift and the lightning mastery to 105%.
- At 80% quality for GF and 105% shock on enemy, this becomes a full screen AoE even with minimal other AoE investment.
- We automate our shock application with Replica Maloney's Mechanism, socketed with Divergent Lightning Arrow + Overcharge + Awakened Unbound Ailments.
- When we press Galvanic Field (on right click), it will trigger LA and shock the enemy (and ideally clear the pack). This makes for smooth, 1-button mapping where you just click once from pack to pack.
- Despite having almost no investment into attack damage, we can still consistently hit max shocks on even extremely tanky enemies. We do this by using a lot of "Shocks as if dealing x% more damage", which all stack multiplicatively:
- Voltaxic Rift (300%)
- Lightning Arrow (300%)
- Overcharge (700%)
- In addition to this, we stack as much increased shock/non-damaging ailments effect as well (tree, crucible tree). We also use the Fury of Nature Ranger forbidden jewels, which gives us 100% more effect.
- Fury of Nature also gives us ailment proliferation, which is really nice for shocks.
- To best take advantage of Fury of Nature, we use Call of the Void, which gives us strong proliferating chills and satisfying shatters. This also acts as a soft defensive layer.
- Chills allow us to benefit from the Glacial Cage wheel, and enables cluster jewel notables like Cold Conduction.
- We take advantage of ailment proliferation from other sources as well, such as Anomalous Arctic Armor (freeze prolif) and brittle ground boots.
Pros
- Excellent clear, good for high mob density content
- Full screen AoE, can off-screen mobs frequently
- Satisfying shatters
- Easy (but moderately expensive) gearing, as we mostly use uniques and cap res with pathfinder flasks.
- No absolutely mandatory crucible nodes (though a lot are really nice to have)
- Low-ish buttons. You mainly just press GF from pack to pack and press life flask every 6 seconds or so. You occasionally hit your movement skill and self cast Despair for tough mobs/bosses.
- Most importantly, very off meta for maximum hipster points
Cons
- Mediocre single target, due to GF mechanics. You have a free 6-link in the bow, figuring out single target is left as an exercise to the reader (I have Storm Brand but I don't really use it)
- Low max HP in its current state, feels less tanky than it should be given our defensive layers (triple ele flasks, petrified blood, moderate spell suppression)
- High initial startup cost, need mandatory uniques
- Need to solve accuracy
- Can feel a bit clunky at times, since Replica Maloney's has a 1 second cooldown
Other Notes
- Don't use Ele Focus for Galv Field, you won't be able to chill.
- Chain is extremely extremely important to feel good for clear.
- Galvanic Field can only target the same enemy once every 0.5s, but with chain it can hit other enemies and chain back to the original.
- On that note, Awakened Chain is very important. PoB numbers don't tell the whole story, in most scenarios Aw. Chain is going to be more damage than other supports due to GFs mechanics.
- +1 chain helm enchant is important, pay a lab runner and get it enchanted.
- Galvanic Field also has an interesting property in that it can chain off chests and barrels in a map. Good with Legion and Expedition in that regard, and certain maps are also better.
- Mark of the Shaper is excellent damage, but it has a somewhat annoying thing. Summon Volatile Anomaly sometimes shocks enemies and creates a small AoE GF, overwriting your usual large AoE (this is the small AoE you see sometimes in the video).
- There exists a really cool arcanist brand tech for single target damage on GF. You have arcanist brand linked with 2 separate hydrospheres. GF can only hit a single enemy every 0.5s, but it can chain off hydrosphere to hit the same enemy. Hydrosphere has a limit that it can only be hit once every second. However, since you have 2 separate hydrospheres, each time arcanist brand casts it will create a new instance of a hydrosphere, essentially resetting the hydrosphere hit counter and allowing GF to chain from it again.
- Unfortunately, we can't use this tech in this build since GF won't chain back to the enemy on which the field is on (as the field will be on the enemy/boss who we need the single target for). It works for self-GF since the field is on us.
- An Occultist version might also be very strong.
Overall, I'm really happy with the way the build turned out. I was able to take an underused, off-meta skill and make a decently functioning build out of it, and automate some aspects of it for a smooth playstyle. I'd love to keep iterating on this build for a while, but I'm going on a vacation for a while so I won't be playing much. I'd still love to hear any advice or ideas to improve upon this, and hopefully this will give you some inspiration for your own wacky builds.
