Niroc's Notes
Theory tag because I have a PoB and no character to actually show it with. But I've tested the mechanics, and know they work. The question is whether or not my PoB is accurate.
Where does the come from?
The idea is that buff up , you spawn all your worms, throw the beartrap on your target, then use call of steel 4 seconds later.
To do some math: PoB reports that the total stored damage of our Impale is 1 million. The Impaler inflicts 4 additional impales, so each beartrap is 5 million damage in an AOE.
With 5 worm flasks and a bit of reduced flask charges used on the belt, we can spawn 30 worms.
Call of steal deals all of the stored damage in an area around targets that had impales called from them. The worms have impales from The Impaler. The downside is that we can't call the impale damage from them for 4 seconds. So we just wait out the 4 seconds. Then we can use Call of Steel, and hit for 31*5 million damage.
I am fully aware of what can happen in 4 seconds. Most bosses don't stand still for that long, the worms wonder both in and out. A good chunk of the worms will miss.
But if you're concerned about whether or not this will reliably one shot ubers after 4 seconds... I admire your dedication to perfectionism, but this is a champion impale beartrap wormblaster.
It's just about the most disrespectful, gimmick thing you could kill ubers with. If Mark ever sees this build in action, he might finally just make the worms cosmetic, and have the flask grant your on-kill effects on use.
The damage could be pushed even further, The scepter could have +1 all spells, the helmet could be corrupted to have up to +4. But at a certain point, damage starts losing its meaning. And if you really care about optimization it even further than this, you should at least wait to see what the league is like. Boss kill league? Oh ya, it's time to cook. Endless hordes of undead? I'd rather play conversion trap.
It could deal way more damage, but I wanted something with reasonable defenses, and at least not complete dog-tier clear speed. That way I can cope about "not playing a dedicated boss killer" as I suffer my way through red maps.
Can it do anything else?
The 3 second cooldown on the bear trap really hurts potential clear speed, but the total damage of the impales from one trap is still close to 5 million.
For most enemies, we don't need to use a worm-flask call of steel nuke. Any decently fast-hitting skill will burn through those impales to deal damage. In the case of this build, I chose Divine Ire of Holy Lightning, because it can be used to get physical/lightning infusion, and hits pretty fast.
It's get you through a map, just not that fast. I wouldn't do content with a constant stream of enemies, which is unfortunately most of the good stuff right now. But hey, maybe Jun / Ghosted Exiles / Harvest is meta next league.
And now that I have cursed the world with the knowledge of this thing’s existence, I am free. I am going to go scrub myself clean by updating my 1.2m dps Vaal molten shell Chieftain. Or finally get around to giving my 3m dps Katabasis occultist the rest of its gear.
May the powers that be (Mark_GGG) smite this build from existence before it ever has the chance to defile 3.24 with its presence.
