Rage Vortex - 7/7 Ubers Down with Under 40 Ex Budget

Hello everyone.

One of my primary goals this league was to complete all 7 Ubers on my own, and after completing it, I figured I would post my build for the community as it performed almost exactly as I had hoped. Feel free to ask any question about the build and I’m happy to answer.

 

Background: I consider myself a slightly above average player. I can do basic boss mechanics and take someone else's builds to adjust to my style, but my 40 something year old brain can't match the top tier players of POE. Consider me tier C when it comes to mechanics. Early in the league I was doing some Maven farming and decided to try out Uber Maven just to get a feel for the fight. I was using a typical mapper that could do all the typical end game content but was pretty glass cannon. Needless to say, Uber Maven just ran me over and I couldn't even phase her. That is where I realized, if i was truly going to be able to complete 7/7 myself, I would need a build that 1) Has very high DPS so that any difficult mechanics are kept to a minimum, 2) Enough defenses so that I can take a few hits, and 3) not cost mirrors.

 

How did I end up on Rage Vortex: While looking for some higher DPS builds, I came across [Mathil's Rage Vortex] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ndqpivxIXo) from last league, where in his video he notes it had some of the most insane single target DPS he has played with. If I could take that DPS and add just enough defense without crippling the build, I think it would work. In reviewing his POB, I realized I could drop enough DPS on the gear to get positive chaos resist and either Melding or Spell Suppression. After tinkering more, I realized Melding was giving up too much where Spell Suppression was giving up just enough to still be competitive. I also realized his POBs didnt take into account that every exerted rage vortex would deal double damage through the entire storm, so the build really did have ludicrous damage.

 

Rage Vortex Final Form:

• Level 95 POB when I started bossing: https://pastebin.com/ca0QxkHc . 29M DPS. This POB assumes each vortex is exerted (which it usually is) and does not have flasks active. I also feel like 29M is an accurate representation based on the time it took to kill Uber Eater and Uber Cortex. Ultimately this felt like sufficient damage to complete the fights quickly enough to avoid extra phases.

• Map Clear 2/10 - It really is that bad. I hated mapping on this build. I ended up leveling 70-90 through delve as launching the vortex down a hallway was pretty nice, and then finished 90-95 through rotas.

• Bossing 8/10 overall, 10/10 based on budget - I'm sure there are better bossers out there (skeles, Fang, etc), but at a 40ex price, I think its great. You only need to attack once every ~3 seconds, which is nice to then focus on moving/dodging/positioning. Feel free to read my reply to this post talking about each Uber and how it went, but overall it was great.

 

Cost of the Build: I did a review of all gear for the key stats I needed on each piece through the trade site again yesterday, and as of the posting of this, I could purchase all pieces for 31 ex. This leaves me 9 ex for rolling implicits, gems, flasks, and anything else I might have missed that cost some currency. Bossing Video: So I did record all kills, but unfortunately my potato PC can't run PoE AND get a clear OBS recording. I went ahead and provided the link, but understand that when things got crazy on the screen, OBS would crap out and record like 1 frame a second (however gameplay was not impacted). I put my notes in a post below regarding each fight which I think you will get more out of, but if you really want to see a shitty computer try to record boss fights, here you go

 

Final Comments: The build was a complete success. 7/7 down with a reasonable budget. I do wish leveling from 70-95 wasn't just horrid, but the end result makes it worth it. I'll be keeping this guy around to do all the bossing challenges as my next goal is to get 38 challenges with minimal/no help. Already got the harvest boss and 7 crops, so I'm hoping the big RNG ones are past me.
